Your Role
Provides leadership for cross functional complex projects or campaigns which are designed to meet business goals and objectives, ensuring timely delivery of solutions. Presents solutions to business stakeholders and participates in program planning and concept generation. Some of the designs being produced will be for mobile applications and/or embedded devices.
• Leads cross functional complex projects or campaigns, leveraging knowledge of business challenges to effectively present strategically focused solutions which meet business goals and objectives
• Coordinates timely completion of wide range of responsibilities associated with a complex project or campaign
• Presents complex projects or campaigns to wide range of business stakeholders
• Receives and provides constructive feedback to peers
• Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing input on concepts
• Actively and constructively contributes in high pressure situations, including resolve project conflicts with minimal assistance
• Mentors and/or supervises less experienced Art Directors
• Independently determines general approach and specific solutions to problems
• Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques
• Applies good judgment in setting schedules and risk taking
• Exemplifies Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and proactively works to improve Garmin’s image and culture
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Collaborating with business, sales/marketing, engineering, and graphic and industrial design
•Conducting primary and secondary research, including field studies, interviews, and reviews of relevant web and print resources. Producing reports based on research.
•Scripting and/or moderating lab-based, on-the-water, and remote usability tests. Analyzing and synthesizing results.
•Producing prototypes ranging from low to high-fidelity, including clickable prototypes
•Conducting heuristic evaluations of existing Garmin products, as well as competitive and comparative products
•Development and maintenance of personas
•Producing finished designs for implementation and advising on design tradeoffs during implementation
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree from a four year college or university AND a minimum of 8 years substantially similar work experience OR Master Degree AND a minimum of 5 years substantially similar work experience
• Experience in field research/contextual inquiry
• Willingness to spend time on the water on powerboats and sailboats: inland, coastal, and offshore
• Willingness to travel for research and business (estimated 3-4 weeks/year, though this is pretty rough-cut still)
• Experience with responsive design
Plusses:
• A degree in the following: Interaction Design (IxD), Interactive Media, Digital Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Design, User Experience, Cognitive Science, Human-Centered Design, Human Factors, Digital Media
• Experience in remote research and/or remote usability testing
• Active participation in UXPA, conferences, or design jams
• Ability to concept via sketches, drawings and storyboards
